A landmark black IPA makes a triumphant return
My favorite way to enjoy a ballgame? With a beer. Duh.
I plan to give you a delicious beer recommendation each week, so you can pair wisely with your viewing experience.
Wookey Jack – Firestone Walker

About a decade ago, I brought home a four-pack of the Firestone Walker (Paso Robles, California) black IPA Wookey Jack from a now-shuttered beer bar in Beacon, New York. With one sip I realized I was tasting a classic. With its punchy, citrusy hop profile and its roasted, piney malts, Wookey Jack was a complex, potent beer (8.3% ABV) made for cool spring nights.
Then Firestone Walker stopped distributing it, nearly ridding the world of it altogether. Until recently.
Wookey was reintroduced in can form and now available wherever Firestone Walker – now owned by Duvel Moortgat, by the way – distributes. My recent taste wasn’t as good as a decade ago, but I’m willing to try again considering the volatility of a single can sent across the country. Give this a spin, especially for a night game.
